About the Herbs:

Rhodiola

The organ that it’s most associated with is the Liver. The liver plays an important role in TCM, because it’s the main organ that regulates the flow of Qi in the body. Rhodiola is a well-known fatigue fighter which is likely due to its adaptogenic properties. A study focusing on participants with chronic fatigue looked at the effects of Rhodiola root extract over a two-month period. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with participants reporting improvements in energy, mood, and quality of life. It found that the herb actually decreased the cortisol response to stress in the body in addition to increasing concentration. Rhodiola should not be given to children. Schisandra Berry

is celebrated in China and Korea as an adaptogen—herbs that alleviate stress and help the body deal with physical and mental fatigue. The adaptogenic properties of Schisandra have been cited for centuries in Asian tradition for helping beautify and protect the skin from environmental stress. It is also said that Schisandra's concentrated B-vitamin complex and antioxidant activity help support healthy liver function and hormonal balance. A 2016 study analyzed the effects of Schisandra extract on women with menopausal symptoms. The study followed 36 menopausal women for one year. Researchers determined that Schisandra is effective at alleviating some symptoms of menopause. These symptoms included hot flashes, sweating, and heart palpitations. Doses that are too high can result in gastric distress symptoms, such as heartburn. For this reason, Schisandra may not be appropriate for people with conditions such as ulcers, GERD, or hyperchlorhydria (high stomach acid). Gotu Kola

The most interesting health benefits of Gotu Kola include its ability to prevent hair loss, speed wound healing, boost cognition, soothe nervous disorders, alleviate respiratory issues, reduce toxicity, protect the heart, enhance mood, and heal the circulatory system. Gotu Kola can have a positive effect on anxiety issues as it lowers the stress hormone, cortisol, and increases serotonin and dopamine levels. It effectively decreases the frequency and severity of anxiety attacks and episodes in a group of subjects who suffered from some form of GAD (General Anxiety Disorder). In Chinese medicine, Gotu Kola tea benefits includes purifying blood as well as treating high blood pressure. One study shows it prevents blood clotting. GOTU KOLA: PROTECTION AGAINST RADIATION

Eleuthero was frequently used in TCM for inflammatory diseases. Modern research proves this as it appears that this herb has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. It’s noted that Eleuthero Root has also been studied for its benefits for building resistance to radiation and carcinogens. It is recommend using it in conjunction with other adaptogenic herbs like Rhodiola or Ashwagandha to improve their effectiveness in combating the effects of physical and mental stressors.
